San Francisco Giants third baseman Matt Chapman will undergo season-ending surgery Tuesday, the team announced.
The procedure is expected to repair a hernia and a core muscle tear.
The 33-year-old hasn't appeared in a game since June 30 and was in the midst of his worst offensive campaign. Chapman's .652 OPS ranks 18th out of 23 third basemen with at least 350 plate appearances, according to FanGraphs.
Chapman has four more years on his contract with an annual average salary of $25.1 million.
The Giants also announced catcher Daniel Susac has a left knee patella fracture and placed him on the 10-day IL.
Susac owns a .243/.289/.375 slash line with 22 RBIs in 53 games this season.
The Giants selected catcher Zach Morgan from Triple-A in a corresponding move.
