Cincinnati Reds right-hander Hunter Greene is set to have elbow surgery, the team said Friday, according to Mark Sheldon of MLB.com.
Greene's procedure will be around the ligament, but the full scope of the surgery won't be known until the operation, president of baseball operations Nick Krall added, per Pat Brennan of the Cincinnati Enquirer.
The 27-year-old met with Dr. Neal ElAttrache on Thursday after landing on the injured list due to right elbow soreness.
Greene felt discomfort following Tuesday's side session. He then underwent an MRI on Wednesday.
The 2024 All-Star was sidelined for the first three months of the season after having loose bodies and bone chips removed from his pitching elbow in March.
Greene was the subject of trade rumors leading up to Monday's deadline but ultimately remained with the Reds. He's owed $15 million in 2027 and $16 million in 2028. He has a $21-million club option for 2029.
Greene posted a 6.83 ERA with 1.37 WHIP and 10.7 K/9 in 27 2/3 innings (five starts) in 2026. He authored a 2.76 ERA with 10.5 K/9 and 6.6 fWAR over 258 innings (45 starts) across 2024 and 2025.
