Washington Nationals star outfielder James Wood is going on the 10-day injured list with a "mild oblique strain," manager Blake Butera said Tuesday, according to Mark Zuckerman of Nats Journal.
Butera added that the team is hopeful Wood will be sidelined for a short stint.
The 23-year-old exited Monday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies with left side discomfort after injuring himself on a swing in the seventh inning.
"Obviously, it's not what you want to hear, but I feel like I'm in good hands here," Wood said, according to Aaron Bracy of The Associated Press. "It's tough not being able to be out there, but it's just something to grow from."
The two-time All-Star has hit 30 homers with 73 RBIs and .928 OPS over 114 games this season. He leads the majors with 100 runs and 90 walks.
Andrew Pinckney is getting promoted to replace Wood on the active roster. The 25-year-old outfielder will make his MLB debut.
