The Pittsburgh Pirates acquired right-hander Luke Weaver from the New York Mets for shortstop prospect Sammy Stafura, the teams announced Monday.
The Pirates also received cash from the Mets.
To complete the deal with the Pirates, the Mets are taking on $2M of Weaver's contract this year and $6m next year.

Weaver is still owed around $3 million for the rest of 2026 and $12.5 million in 2027 after inking a two-year, $22-million contract during the offseason.
The 32-year-old has posted a 1.84 ERA with 0.82 WHIP and 9.2 K/9 over 42 appearances this season. He was arguably the top reliever available on the trade market.
Stafura was the No. 9-ranked prospect in the Pirates' minor-league system, according to MLB Pipeline.
The 21-year-old has 20 homers with 54 RBIs, 20 stolen bases, and a .960 OPS over 60 games in Single-A in 2026.
