The Philadelphia Phillies and Toronto Blue Jays have emerged as trade partners ahead of the Aug. 3 deadline, reports MLB Network's Jon Morosi.
While a number of Blue Jays players fit Philadelphia's needs, the Phillies are interested in outfielder Daulton Varsho, reports Jon Heyman of the New York Post.
Varsho, a pending free agent, would likely slot into center field for the Phillies if they acquired him. Philadelphia hasn't gotten much production in center with rookie Justin Crawford getting the majority of the reps. Crawford's recorded a .645 OPS with two homers in 99 games while playing below-average defense.
Meanwhile, Varsho has been one of the best center fielders in baseball over the past four seasons, accruing 43 defensive runs saved. He's also got some pop, having posted three seasons with at least 20 homers.
Some other trade candidates on the Blue Jays who might interest the Phillies include Kevin Gausman and former Philadelphia set-up man Jeff Hoffman.
