The Minnesota Twins placed All-Star outfielder Byron Buxton on the 10-day injured list with a right hip impingement, the team announced Wednesday.

A timeline for his return was not immediately known.

It's the second time this month that Buxton has landed on the IL because of a hip injury. The 32-year-old returned to action just over a week ago after missing time with a right hip strain.

Buxton left Minnesota's win over the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday after five innings with what the team initially called hip soreness.

The outfielder was having a solid season with the Twins, hitting .263/.320/.544 with 25 homers and 45 RBIs over the first 82 games. He was voted an All-Star starter by fans but missed the game due to his first IL stint. Buxton has struggled since returning July 20, recording just four hits, all singles. He was in the midst of an 0-for-14 skid when he left Tuesday's contest.

Buxton's latest injury comes amid a red-hot July for the Twins in which they've climbed to within a half-game of the final AL wild-card spot. Although they entered play Wednesday with a 54-54 record along with a minus-26 run differential, this recent run prompted them to declare themselves buyers at this year's deadline - albeit before Buxton went back on the IL.

"This has been what we were focusing on and what our pro personnel group over the last couple of months has been focused on - the 'buy' version of things," general manager Jeremy Zoll said Tuesday, according to Dan Hayes of The Athletic. "It wasn't some situation where they were prepping to sell and we're switching. Now we're looking forward to try and execute on that work."

Minnesota is trying to make the playoffs for the first time since 2023, when it advanced to the ALDS. Buxton wasn't a factor in that postseason run, appearing in just one game as a pinch-hitter.

Infielder Tristan Gray was recalled from Triple-A St. Paul in a corresponding roster move.
