Blue Jays select Arizona State pitcher Carlon with 39th pick

The Toronto Blue Jays selected Arizona State left-hander Cole Carlon with the 39th pick in the 2026 MLB Draft on Saturday.

Carlon, a 6-foot-5 southpaw, possesses a 70-grade slider and a fastball that touches 98 mph.

He struck out 133 hitters in 83 2/3 innings for Arizona State last season, which was the 21-year-old's first campaign as a full-time starter.

The Blue Jays have taken a pitcher with their top pick in three out of the last five drafts, selecting Trey Yesavage at 20th overall in 2024 and Brandon Barriera at 23rd in 2022.
