New York Mets starting pitcher Clay Holmes said he's "definitely open" to a midseason extension, according to Will Sammon and Tim Britton of The Athletic.

The Mets, who are last in the NL East with a 40-54 record, are expected to be sellers at the deadline.

Multiple teams are eyeing Holmes, who is working his way back from a fractured fibula suffered earlier this year, Sammon and Britton add. The veteran pitcher has a $12-million player option for 2027, making him an intriguing trade candidate, but he's not looking to leave the club.

"I know things are not the easiest right now and hard, but it's not like I'm sitting here hoping to run away from it," Holmes said Thursday. "If I can be part of the solution to make things better here, I would like that."

He added: "I came here for a reason. You almost have the sense of some type of unfinished business. You want to make things right and do things well here because when you do win here, it's very exciting. I've seen that. It's something that I hope to be a part of."

Holmes, who joined the Mets ahead of the 2025 season, had a 3.53 ERA across 31 starts in his first season with the Mets. He held a 2.39 ERA this year prior to his injury.
