The Seattle Mariners are placing catcher Cal Raleigh on the injured list due to a right oblique strain.

Raleigh, who's struggled as a hitter this season, will land on IL for the first time in his career.

"The good news here is that he's got a chance to get himself back, to get himself healthy, and to come back with a lot of the season left," Mariners manager Dan Wilson said Thursday, according to Daniel Kramer of MLB.com. "That's really the silver lining here."

The Mariners, who are in Houston for a series against the Astros, will further evaluate Raleigh when they return to Seattle on Friday, adds Kramer.

Mitch Garver got the start behind the plate for Seattle on Thursday against the Astros. The Mariners are also calling up Jhonny Pereda.

Raleigh finished second in MVP voting last season after hitting 60 home runs. However, the 29-year-old is batting only .161 with seven HRs through 41 appearances in 2026.
