The Arizona Diamondbacks traded outfielder Alek Thomas to the Los Angeles Dodgers for 17-year-old outfield prospect Jose Requena, the team announced Tuesday.
The Dodgers will absorb the remainder of Thomas' $1.45-million salary for this season, according to The Arizona Republic's Nick Piecoro.
Thomas was designated for assignment by Arizona on Friday after hitting .181/.222/.340 with two home runs and 10 RBIs in 28 games.
The 26-year-old remains an above-average defender in center field and could provide the Dodgers with a left-handed hitting option for their outfield rotation.
Thomas was a notable contributor to the D-Backs' World Series run in 2023, when he hit four home runs in the playoffs.
Los Angeles designated outfielder Michael Siani for assignment to make room for Thomas on its 40-man roster, according to Jack Harris of the California Post.
