Blue Jays' Ponce has ACL sprain, will miss significant time
Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Cody Ponce sustained an ACL sprain in his right knee and will miss significant time, manager John Schneider said Tuesday, according to Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.
The Blue Jays are waiting for second opinions before determining how to proceed with Ponce's injury.
The 31-year-old could need extensive rehab instead of surgery since he avoided a full tear, reports Hazel Mae of Sportsnet.
Ponce hurt himself while fielding a grounder during Monday's loss to the Colorado Rockies - his first MLB appearance since 2021. He joined Toronto on a three-year, $30-million deal in the offseason after winning the 2025 KBO MVP in South Korea.
Schneider added that the team won't adjust its rotation through the next turn, per Keegan Matheson of MLB.com. For additional pitching depth, the club has Lazaro Estrada on hand, along with Adam Macko, CJ Van Eyk, and Chad Dallas.
Ponce joins Trey Yesavage, Shane Bieber, and José Berríos as notable Blue Jays starters currently sidelined.
