A T206 Honus Wagner baseball card discovered in a family collection sold for $5.124 million through Goldin Auctions, according to ESPN's Dan Hajducky.

The card belonged to Douglas and Dennis Shields, whose grandfather collected trading cards in the early 1900s.

The card, which received a grade of one from Professional Sports Authenticator (PSA), became the third-most expensive copy of a T206 Honus Wagner ever sold. Other copies of the card sold for $6.606 million in 2021 and $7.25 million in 2022.

"We are honored that the Shields family chose us to represent this historic card that has been in their family for 116 years," Goldin Auctions CEO and founder Ken Goldin said in a statement.

T206 Honus Wagner cards are considered among the rarest in the sports trading card business. They were originally distributed in American Tobacco Company products but were pulled from production in 1909.
