The Cleveland Guardians agreed to a minor-league deal with first baseman Rhys Hoskins, according to Paul Hoynes of Cleveland.com.
Hoskins will earn a base salary of $1.5 million if he makes the big-league club.
"We've signed Rhys Hoskins to a minor-league deal, so he'll be in camp," manager Stephen Vogt said Sunday. "We're very excited. Rhys Hoskins has had a great career to this point. We're going to acclimate him to camp.
"He's got a chance to come into camp, make an impact, and possibly make the team. He's a right-handed bat who can play first base and DH. Obviously, we don't have a lot of right-handed bats in camp."
The 32-year-old spent the past two seasons with the Milwaukee Brewers, hitting .223/.314/.418 with 38 home runs and 125 RBIs in 221 games.
He posted a .749 OPS (108 OPS+) last season and owns a .882 career OPS against left-handed pitching.
Hoskins grades as a below-average defender at first base, where Kyle Manzardo is expected to start for the Guardians. Hoskins has accrued minus-6 defensive runs saved at first throughout his career.
Cleveland is attempting to win its third straight AL Central crown.
