New York Mets owner Steve Cohen is anxiously waiting All-Star outfielder Kyle Tucker's decision on what team he'll pick in free agency - just like the rest of the baseball world.

"Let me know when you see smoke," Cohen wrote Thursday on X.

Cohen referred to the Vatican's process of electing a new pope, during which white smoke can be seen coming from the chimney above the Sistine Chapel.

The Mets boss added afterward: "For those who don't understand the pope election reference, we are waiting for a decision. That's all I know."

Tucker is reportedly nearing a decision between the Mets, Toronto Blue Jays, and Los Angeles Dodgers, which created buzz that he could come to a contract agreement Thursday. However, there's now speculation that the wait will continue into Friday.

New York reportedly has a four-year offer on the table for Tucker, a source told Mike Puma of the New York Post. The proposal is believed to be worth $50 million in average annual value.

The Dodgers are thought to prefer a short-term pact with a high AAV as well. The Blue Jays, meanwhile, have reportedly made a long-term offer to Tucker, but the details aren't known.
