The Los Angeles Dodgers traded outfielder Esteury Ruiz to the Miami Marlins for minor-league pitcher Adriano Marrero, the teams announced Monday.

Ruiz, a former top prospect, has appeared in 197 big-league games across four seasons between the Dodgers, Oakland Athletics, San Diego Padres, and Milwaukee Brewers.

The 26-year-old led the American League with 67 steals in 2023 and has been traded five times since signing as a free agent with the Kansas City Royals in 2015.

The speedy Ruiz owns a .241/.296/.343 slash line with 27 doubles and 59 RBIs throughout his MLB career. However, he's struggled defensively, posting minus-25 defensive runs saved while primarily playing center field.

Marrero, 18, started 10 games for the Marlins' Dominican Summer League squad in 2025. The right-hander authored a 3.82 ERA and 9.5 K/9 across those outings.

Miami also traded outfielder Dane Myers to the Cincinnati Reds on Saturday and signed closer Pete Fairbanks to a one-year deal on Christmas Eve.

The Marlins designated infielder Eric Wagaman for assignment to make room on the roster for Ruiz.
