The Toronto Blue Jays are eyeing a potential upgrade at the back end of their bullpen in free agency.

The Blue Jays met with All-Star closer Edwin Díaz's agents from Wasserman at this week's general manager meetings in Las Vegas, sources told Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.

Díaz, who won his third Reliever of the Year award Thursday, said his representatives have also spoken with the New York Mets about a new contract but put his odds at 50-50 to return to Queens, according to Mike Puma of the New York Post.

The 31-year-old is reportedly seeking a deal similar to the five-year, $102-million pact he signed with the Mets in November 2022.

Díaz posted a 1.63 ERA with 28 saves and 13.3 K/9 over 66 1/3 innings in 2025. The right-hander owns 253 career saves.

Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins said in early November that Jeff Hoffman, the team's current closer, would be "open to anything that makes us better."

"The great thing about Jeff is he's not married to that (role)," Atkins said at the time. "Talking about the cohesion and team approach (of the Jays), he epitomizes that."

Hoffman had a chance to lock down the Blue Jays' first World Series title in 32 years but gave up a ninth-inning game-tying homer to Miguel Rojas in Game 7 before an eventual 5-4 loss in 11 innings to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

"I cost everybody in here a World Series ring, it feels pretty shitty," Hoffman told reporters after the crushing defeat. "You got to execute better in that spot and not let that (home run) happen."

Hoffman finished the postseason with a 1.46 ERA, 0.81 WHIP, 18 strikeouts, and two saves over 10 appearances. However, the 32-year-old allowed 14 homers in the ninth inning in 2025 to go with a 4.37 ERA and 33 saves in the regular season during an up-and-down first campaign with the Blue Jays.
