Blue Jays place Bassitt on IL with back inflammation
The Toronto Blue Jays placed right-hander Chris Bassitt on the 15-day injured list with low back inflammation, the team announced Saturday.
Toronto recalled left-hander Mason Fluharty from Triple-A in a corresponding move. Fluharty will be active for Saturday's game against the Kansas City Royals.
Bassitt, who's 11-9 with a 3.96 ERA in 170 1/3 innings, will be eligible to come off the IL prior to the start of the American League Division Series.
The pitcher's back has been acting up in his past three-to-four starts, and the team is "waiting on some further testing and stuff to see the plan going forward," Blue Jays manager John Schneider said, according to Sportsnet's Shi Davidi.
Toronto's rotation down the stretch is expected to include Kevin Gausman, Shane Bieber, Max Scherzer, and Trey Yesavage. Gausman, Scherzer, and Bieber will start during an upcoming series against the Boston Red Sox, according to Schneider.
José Berríos could also be an option, although Schneider said Friday that the right-hander would be available out of the bullpen - before the team announced Bassitt's injury.
