The Philadelphia Phillies signed right-hander Walker Buehler to a minor-league contract, the team announced Sunday.
Buehler, who will report to Triple-A Lehigh Valley, is eligible to participate in the postseason, ESPN's Jeff Passan reports.
The Boston Red Sox released Buehler on Friday. He's struggled this season after signing a one-year, $21.05-million deal in December.
The two-time All-Star posted a career-worst 5.45 ERA and 6.7 K/9 in 23 appearances (22 starts) for the Red Sox. Buehler previously spent seven seasons with the Dodgers, winning 47 games and two World Series titles prior to his Red Sox stint.
The 31-year-old provides depth for the Phillies' starting rotation after they lost ace Zack Wheeler for the remainder of the season due to thoracic outlet syndrome.
Philadelphia also claimed left-hander Tim Mayza off waivers from the Pittsburgh Pirates.
