Rangers' Seager to undergo appendectomy, return uncertain
Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager is undergoing surgery Thursday for an appendectomy after feeling pain in his appendix before Wednesday's game, president of baseball operations Chris Young said, according to Jeff Wilson of DLLS Sports.
Young added that the Rangers aren't sure of Seager's recovery timetable but haven't ruled out his potential return this season.
The two-time World Series MVP has 21 homers with 50 RBIs and an .860 OPS over 102 games in 2025.
Texas is planning to use Josh Smith for the majority of the time at shortstop with Seager sidelined, according to Wilson.
Utility man Dylan Moore, who signed a minor-league deal Tuesday, will join the team Friday. He's started 93 games at short over his seven-year career.
The Rangers have been hit with significant injuries over the last two weeks, losing Nathan Eovaldi, Marcus Semien, Evan Carter, and Jon Gray either long term or for the rest of the season.
Texas enters Thursday's action 4.5 games out of the AL's final wild-card spot.
