J-Rod makes history with latest 20-20 campaign: 'Very big accomplishment'

Seattle Mariners outfielder Julio Rodríguez made history Sunday when he became the first MLB player to begin his career with four consecutive seasons of at least 20 homers and 20 steals.

"That's a very big accomplishment," Rodríguez said, according to MLB.com's Josh Kirshenbaum.

"I know my family's very happy, and I'm sure they're thinking of all the things I had to do to be able to get here. To be able to do it with this team and this organization is awesome. I'm just excited to see where things are going to go from here."

Rodríguez crushed an opposite-field home run off Texas Rangers right-hander Jacob deGrom on Sunday to reach 20 this season. It also marked the 100th homer of the 24-year-old's career.

Rodríguez swiped his 21st bag of the season Sunday as well. He's the third player to reach triple digits in both homers and steals (107) in his first four seasons, joining Barry Bonds and Darryl Strawberry.

"His accomplishments at a very young age are pretty impressive," Mariners manager Dan Wilson said after Seattle's 5-4 win.

Rodríguez is in the midst of a solid campaign. He's also recorded 59 RBIs and amassed 3.4 fWAR in 112 games.
