Dodgers transfer Gonsolin to 60-day IL amid roster shuffle
The Los Angeles Dodgers transferred right-hander Tony Gonsolin to the 60-day injured list Thursday as part of a larger roster shuffle.
The Dodgers placed Gonsolin on the 15-day IL with right elbow discomfort on June 7. By moving him to the 60-day list, the earliest he could return would be in early August.
It's the latest setback for the 31-year-old, who missed all of 2024 recovering from Tommy John surgery. Gonsolin made his long-awaited return to the Dodgers' rotation in late April but posted a 5.00 ERA with a 4.5 BB/9 rate in only seven starts before returning to the IL.
Injuries continue to decimate Los Angeles' pitching staff, a common theme over the last several seasons. The team currently has 13 hurlers, including seven starters, on the IL, with five starters on the 60-day IL. Rookie phenom Roki Sasaki, former All-Star Tyler Glasnow, and marquee free-agent acquisition Blake Snell are among the arms sidelined.
Gonsolin's move to the 60-day IL opened a 40-man roster spot for reliever Jack Little, who the Dodgers selected from Triple-A Oklahoma City ahead of Thursday's game. Little posted a 2.20 ERA and 1.16 WHIP with 33 strikeouts and 10 saves in 26 appearances at Oklahoma City this season. The 27-year-old's first appearance will mark his major-league debut.
The Dodgers also optioned right-hander Emmet Sheehan to Triple-A after he made his season debut Wednesday.
