Chicago Cubs second baseman Nico Hoerner happily shared what he said to home plate umpire Derek Thomas to get himself ejected from Sunday's 4-0 loss to the Detroit Tigers.

"I don't think it's really that often you can, verbatim, say to the press afterwards what got you thrown out, so I said 'You're having a really bad day,'" he said, per Underdog MLB.

The exchange occurred after Thomas rang up Hoerner on a pitch from Tigers starter Jack Flaherty that appeared to be out of the zone. He made his comment and was quickly ejected.

Cubs manager Craig Counsell came to the defense of his player and also got tossed from the game.

Vidal Bruján replaced Hoerner at second base and went hitless in his lone at-bat.

Flaherty and three relievers combined to shut out the Cubs on four hits. Detroit's pitching staff held Chicago's potent lineup to just seven runs total across their three-game series.

Hoerner and company will look to rebound Monday in Philadelphia against the Phillies.
