The Boston Red Sox started working out infielder Kristian Campbell at first base Friday as they look for options at the position, manager Alex Cora said.

"Obviously, we're getting Romy (Gonzalez), probably at the end of the week, early next week. But, you know, just introducing (Campbell) to first base and see how it looks. That's where we're at," Cora said, according to MLB.com's Ian Browne.

The 22-year-old has played the majority of his big-league games at second base and spent some time in the outfield.

"Whatever makes the team better," Campbell said of the possibility of playing first base, according to Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald.

Cora added Campbell getting reps at first has "nothing to do with" Rafael Devers amid recent tension between the organization and the star slugger.

Devers was upset with the Red Sox after the front office asked him to play first following his move from third base to designated hitter before the season began.

Boston has been looking for options at first base since starter Triston Casas tore his patellar tendon in early May. Gonzalez, Abraham Toro, and Nick Sogard have appeared at the position with Casas out of action.
