Brewers' Contreras playing through fractured finger

Milwaukee Brewers catcher William Contreras has been playing with a fractured finger, according to MLB.com's Adam McCalvy.

He plans to continue catching despite the injury, McCalvy adds.

Contreras had an X-ray done following Tuesday's win over the Houston Astros due to increasing pain resulting from the ailment, per McCalvy. The examination confirmed a fractured middle finger on his left hand. It's believed the 27-year-old sustained the injury last season.

Contreras has told the Brewers he wants to continue playing through the pain, according to McCalvy.

He didn't appear in Wednesday's 9-1 loss to the Astros, but it was a scheduled day off for Contreras after he caught nine innings in each of the first two games of the series.

The two-time All-Star is hitting .242/.358/.331 with three home runs and 19 RBIs after slugging .466 with 23 round-trippers across 155 games in 2024.
