The Tampa Bay Rays acquired reliever Mason Englert from the Detroit Tigers for pitching prospect Drew Sommers, the club announced Wednesday.
Detroit designated Englert for assignment last week.
The 25-year-old right-hander made 12 appearances for the Tigers in 2024, pitching to a 5.40 ERA and 1.29 WHIP in 21 2/3 innings. He gave up four home runs and struck out 16 batters.
Sommers, 24, put up a 4.00 ERA and 1.37 WHIP in 54 innings for the Rays' High-A affiliate team, the Bowling Green Hot Rods.
Tampa Bay drafted the lefty in the 11th round of the 2022 MLB draft.
