Report: Astros want Pressly to waive NTC for Cubs; reliever nixes deal to Tigers

Ryan Pressly's days with the Houston Astros could be numbered.

The Astros asked the two-time All-Star reliever to waive his no-trade clause for a deal with the Chicago Cubs, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network.

Pressly hasn't approved or rejected a potential move to the Cubs that would see him leave the Astros after seven seasons, a source told Chandler Rome, Sahadev Sharma, and Patrick Mooney of The Athletic.

The 36-year-old is reportedly weighing a fresh start in Chicago versus staying in Houston, a city his family calls home.

Houston also asked Pressly if he'd waive his NTC to head to the Detroit Tigers, a source told Ari Alexander of KPRC 2 Houston.

However, the Tigers won't be acquiring Pressly, reports Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press.

The Astros are "doing whatever they can" to trade Pressly, a source told Rome, Sharma, and Mooney.

Houston would get salary relief by trading Pressly, who's set to make $14 million in 2025.

The Astros reportedly could increase their chances of re-signing Alex Bregman by creating financial flexibility. The Cubs are also believed to be pursuing the third baseman.

Pressly authored a 3.49 ERA with 1.34 WHIP and 58 strikeouts over 59 appearances in 2024. He owns a 2.81 ERA with 111 saves and 11.1 K/9 across 333 innings during his tenure with Houston.
