Report: Alonso's camp offered Mets 3-year deal with opt-outs
Pete Alonso's camp offered the New York Mets a three-year contract with opt-out clauses to bring the free-agent All-Star first baseman back to Queens, sources told Jim Duquette of MLB Network Radio.
The deal is only available to the Mets right now, according to Duquette.
However, the two sides reportedly aren't close to an agreement.
Alonso's agent, Scott Boras, declined to comment about the proposed pact, according to Duquette.
The Mets and the 30-year-old slugger have both publicly said in the past they'd welcome a return.
Alonso entered the offseason as the top first baseman available but has yet to find a home, while the likes of Christian Walker, Josh Naylor, Paul Goldschmidt, and Carlos Santana landed with new teams.
The four-time All-Star reportedly rejected a seven-year, $158-million extension from the Mets in June 2023.
Alonso has recorded 226 homers with 586 RBIs and a .854 OPS over six years with New York to begin his career. He went deep 34 times with a 122 wRC+ over 162 games during the 2024 regular season and played a key role in helping the Mets reach the NLCS.
