The Toronto Blue Jays and star first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. face a wide gap in contract extension negotiations.

The Blue Jays and Guerrero are at least $100 million apart, reports USA Today's Bob Nightengale, who adds the player is looking for a megadeal worth at least $450 million.

The 25-year-old said on a Spanish podcast in December that the Blue Jays made him an offer of around $340 million, but the proposed pact wasn't close to what he was looking for, according to Sportsnet.

Guerrero can test free agency after the 2025 season. He added that he won't be interested in continuing negotiations once spring training starts.

Both the Blue Jays and Guerrero have publicly said in the past they're interested in finding a way to keep the four-time All-Star in Toronto on a long-term contract.

Guerrero hit 30 homers with 103 RBIs and a .940 OPS over 159 games last season en route to finishing sixth in AL MVP voting and picking up his second career Silver Slugger. The 2021 AL MVP runner-up will arguably be the top free agent available next offseason if he reaches the open market.
