Cashman: 'No regrets' over denying Soto suite at Yankee Stadium
New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman is standing by his decision not to give Juan Soto a private suite for his family at Yankee Stadium during contract negotiations.
"Some high-end players that make a lot of money for us, if they want suites, they buy them," he said, according to Gary Phillips of Daily News.
He added: "No regrets there."
Cashman said that Yankees past and present - including C.C. Sabathia, Aaron Judge, and Gerrit Cole - have all paid for their suites and felt it was important to "honor" previous arrangements.
The New York Mets reportedly gave Soto a suite at Citi Field as part of their record-breaking 15-year, $765-million deal.
Cashman also spoke on Soto reportedly being upset with a Yankees security guard earlier in the year after a member of his family and driver were restricted from certain areas within the stadium.
"It never came up with us," Cashman said. "I'm not saying it couldn't happen, but if it was such a big deal, I would have heard from Scott Boras."
Soto finished third in AL MVP voting during his lone season in pinstripes. He powered the Yankees to their first World Series since 2009 with a .989 OPS (178 OPS+) and a career-high 41 home runs.
