The Philadelphia Phillies signed former All-Star closer Jordan Romano to a one-year contract, the club announced Monday
The deal is worth $8.5 million and includes a $500,000 bonus if Romano logs at least 60 innings, a source told Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic
Romano's pact was originally reported to be worth $7.75 million by Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer, who cited a source.
The Toronto Blue Jays non-tendered the 31-year-old in November after the right-hander missed the majority of the campaign with an elbow injury that required surgery in July. He was projected to earn $7.75 million through arbitration in 2025.
However, Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski said the reliever's medicals looked good, according to Matt Gelb of The Athletic. The executive added the team made no promises about closing.
Romano, an All-Star in 2022 and '23, posted a 6.59 ERA in 15 appearances last season but owns a 2.90 ERA and 11.2 K/9 with 105 saves over six years with the Blue Jays.
The addition of Romano would help a Phillies bullpen that could lose Jeff Hoffman and Carlos Estévez in free agency.
