San Francisco Giants first baseman Wilmer Flores will miss the remainder of the 2024 season after undergoing a Tenex knee procedure to correct an ongoing issue with a quad tendon, manager Bob Melvin said on Tuesday, according to The Athletic's Andrew Baggarly.
The Venezuelan infielder had the operation on Tuesday, his 33rd birthday.
Flores was having the worst campaign of his 12-year career before the injury, which Melvin attributed to the knee injury. He was hitting .206/.277/.318 and added four home runs and 26 RBIs in 71 games after posting an .863 OPS (136 OPS+) last year.
The versatile utility player has spent the past five seasons with the Giants, posting a 111 wRC+ with 76 homers during that period.
Flores has an $8.5-million team option, plus a $3.5-million player option for 2025.
