Blue Jays trade Kiermaier to Dodgers for Yarbrough
The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired four-time Gold Glove-winning outfielder Kevin Kiermaier from the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for left-hander Ryan Yarbrough, the teams announced.
The Blue Jays waived Kiermaier earlier in July after re-signing him to a one-year, $10.5-million deal in the offseason. He slashed a disappointing .195/.236/.310 over 81 games.
However, the 34-year-old remains an elite defender (97th percentile in outs above average) and baserunner (85th percentile in sprint speed) who can help the Dodgers in late-game situations.
Kiermaier announced last week that he will retire after the 2024 season.
Yarbrough posted a 3.74 ERA and 1.14 WHIP in 67 1/3 innings out of the Dodgers' bullpen. The seven-year veteran has experience pitching in both a starting and reliever role. He's set for free agency after this season.
