The Chicago White Sox traded designated hitter Eloy Jiménez and cash considerations to the Baltimore Orioles for left-hander Trey McGough, the teams announced Tuesday.
Jiménez, 27, owns a .240/.297/.345 slash line with five home runs and 16 RBIs in 65 games this season.
The oft-injured slugger is an impactful player when healthy, owning a .790 OPS (114 OPS+) with 94 home runs and 291 RBIs in six seasons. He should provide another weapon to the Orioles' offense, which ranks third in the majors by fWAR.
Jiménez is in the last year of the six-year, $43-million contract he signed in 2019, although he does have a $16.5-million option with a $3-million buyout for 2025 and an $18.5-million option with a $3-million buyout for 2026.
McGough has been terrific in the minors this season, posting a 1.99 ERA and 9.1 K/9 in 54 1/3 innings.
Baltimore has been busy at the deadline, also acquiring starters Zach Eflin and Trevor Rogers, relievers Gregory Soto and Seranthony Domínguez, and position players Austin Slater and Cristian Pache.
Meanwhile, Chicago has also traded away Erick Fedde, Tommy Pham, Paul DeJong, Michael Kopech, and Tanner Banks as it continues to rebuild.
