The Cincinnati Reds traded right-hander Frankie Montas to the Milwaukee Brewers for outfielder Joey Wiemer, right-hander Jakob Junis, and cash considerations, the clubs announced Tuesday.

Montas, 31, signed a one-year, $16-million deal with the Reds in the offseason and owns a 5.01 ERA in 93 1/3 innings. His contract also includes a $20-million mutual option with a $2-million buyout for 2025.
He joins Freddy Peralta, Aaron Civale, Tobias Myers, and Colin Rea in a Brewers rotation dealing with numerous injuries.
The Brewers have already used 16 starting pitchers this season, one shy of a franchise record, and 31-year-old righty Frankie Montas could be No. 17. He has a 5.01 ERA in 19 starts coming off a '23 season mostly lost to a shoulder injury. His deal has a mutual option for '25.

Montas had some of his best years with the Oakland Athletics between 2017-22. He finished sixth in American League Cy Young voting in 2021.
Wiemer has spent most of the 2024 campaign with Triple-A Nashville, slashing .242/.387/.358 with 21 RBIs and six steals in 53 games. The 25-year-old owns a .625 OPS (69 OPS+) in 151 big-league contests. The University of Cincinnati alum was born three hours north of Cincinnati in Sylvania, Ohio.
Junis inked a one-year, $7-million deal with the Brewers in February. The eight-year veteran is 4-0 with a 2.42 ERA and 0.96 WHIP in 26 innings. His contract includes an $8-million mutual option for 2025.
