Boone heated after Mets sweep Yankees: 'This has gone on long enough'
Aaron Boone has high expectations that the New York Yankees aren't meeting right now, and it has the manager feeling frustrated.
"Nobody has higher expectations than us in that frigging room," Boone said following Wednesday's 12-3 loss to the New York Mets, according to YES Network. "We're pissed off. We've got to play better. This has gone on long enough."
A sweep at the hands of their crosstown rivals is the latest stumble in what's been a tough stretch for the Yankees. They're 6-12 in July, with just one series win under their belts. Dating back to June 15, their 10-22 record is only slightly better than the Chicago White Sox, who are on pace to tie Major League Baseball's modern-era loss record.
Boone said the Yankees are competing their "asses off" and have the "right level of edge" but must do a better job of capitalizing with runners in scoring position, taking care of the ball defensively, and commanding pitches if things are to turn around.
"We're getting our teeth kicked in, and we've got to change it," Boone said.
The Yankees have an off day Thursday before departing for a six-game road trip against the Boston Red Sox and Philadelphia Phillies.
