The Seattle Mariners placed star outfielder Julio Rodríguez on the injured list with a high ankle sprain, the team announced Tuesday.

Rodríguez suffered the injury on Sunday against the Houston Astros when he crashed into the outfield wall while attempting to make a catch.

The Mariners initially listed Rodríguez as day-to-day, but manager Scott Servais said his ankle didn't respond as hoped and that he could need more than 10 days on the IL, per MyNorthwest's Shannon Drayer.

The Mariners also announced that they placed shortstop J.P. Crawford on the IL with a right hand fracture and designated first baseman Ty France for assignment after placing him on waivers Sunday.

Outfielders Jonatan Clase and Cade Marlowe as well as infielder Leo Rivas were recalled from Triple-A Tacoma in corresponding moves.

Rodríguez, 23, appeared to be finally turning the corner at the plate after a disappointing first half of the season. The two-time All-Star hit .375/.434./.688 across 14 games in July before suffering the injury.

Seattle has lost 10 of its last 16 games but entered Tuesday tied for first in the AL West with the Astros.
