A's call up top prospect Jacob Wilson
The Oakland Athletics called up top prospect Jacob Wilson ahead of Friday's series opener against the Los Angeles Angels, the team announced.
Wilson is the No. 1 prospect in the A's farm system and the No. 50 prospect in baseball, according to MLB Pipeline. He's the fifth player from the 2023 MLB Draft to make the jump to the big leagues this year, joining Paul Skenes, Wyatt Langford, Nolan Schanuel, and Hurston Waldrep.
Wilson tore up minor-league pitching this season after the A's selected him sixth overall in 2023. He owns a .438/.475/.687 slash line with seven home runs, 25 doubles, and 34 RBIs across various minor-league levels.
The 22-year-old Grand Canyon University alum has spent most of his time at shortstop this season but took reps at third base and in the outfield during his college career.
Max Schuemann, who owns a .686 OPS, has taken most of the shortstop reps for the A's this season.
