Sánchez becomes Phillies' MLB-record 5th All-Star pitcher
Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Cristopher Sánchez was selected to the NL All-Star team, the league announced Saturday.
The 27-year-old is replacing Atlanta Braves lefty Chris Sale, who is scheduled to pitch Sunday against the San Diego Padres.
With the addition of Sánchez, the Phillies now have an MLB-record five pitchers selected to play in the Midsummer Classic in Arlington, Texas. Ranger Suárez was replaced by Braves starter Max Fried after experiencing back spasms after his start Saturday, per Crossing Broad's Anthony SanFilippo.
Eight total All-Star selections also puts Philadelphia in an eight-way tie with the 2023 Braves, 2012 Rangers, 2010 Yankees, 2008 Cubs, 2004 Yankees, 2001 Mariners, and 1961 Yankees for the most ever.

Sánchez earned his first All-Star nod amidst a breakout season.
The left-hander has posted a 2.96 ERA and 1.23 WHIP across 18 starts. He pitched the first complete-game shutout of his career in a dominant outing on June 28 against the Miami Marlins.
The Phillies rewarded Sánchez with a four-year, $22.5-million contract in June.
