Twins' Correa exits game after being hit on hand by pitch
Minnesota Twins shortstop Carlos Correa exited Sunday's game against the Houston Astros in the first inning after being hit on the hand by a pitch.
Astros pitcher Spencer Arrighetti plunked Correa with a high and tight fastball in a 2-2 count with two outs in the inning.
Trainers examined Correa before ultimately removing him from the game. Kyle Farmer replaced him as a pinch runner.
The team is calling the injury a right finger contusion, with initial scans coming back negative for a fracture, per MLB.com's Brian McTaggart.
The hit-by-pitch - for which no warnings were issued - appeared accidental yet comes after Twins third baseman Jose Miranda was hit in Saturday's game. Astros stars Jose Altuve and Yordan Alvarez have also been hit by pitches at various points in the three-game series.
Correa suffered a similar incident June 27 against the Diamondbacks. He left the game after being struck on the wrist but returned to the Twins' lineup the next day after X-rays came back negative.
The two-time All-Star owns a .305/.376/.508 slash line this season.
