Houston Astros right-handers José Urquidy and Cristian Javier had Tommy John surgery, the club announced Friday, according to Chandler Rome of The Athletic.
The Astros added that both starting pitchers are expected to return at some point during the 2025 campaign, per Julia Morales of the Space City Home Network.
The typical recovery timeline from the elbow procedure is 12-18 months.
Urquidy, who had his second Tommy John surgery, didn't pitch this season for Houston after sustaining a forearm strain during spring training. The 29-year-old owns a career 3.98 ERA with 1.14 WHIP and 7.2 K/9 over five years with the Astros.
The 27-year-old Javier posted a 3.89 ERA with 27 strikeouts over 34 2/3 innings this year.
Both hurlers helped Houston win the 2022 World Series.
