The Toronto Blue Jays placed right-hander Jordan Romano on the 15-day injured list with right elbow inflammation, the team announced Saturday.
Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Romano underwent an MRI on Friday that revealed no structural damage, according to The Athletic's Kaitlyn McGrath.
The 31-year-old closer hasn't made an appearance since Wednesday. He was unavailable during Friday's win over the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Romano allowed home runs in consecutive outings before he went on the IL. He hasn't looked sharp and started the campaign late because of similar inflammation that arose during spring training. The hurler owns a 6.59 ERA with 13 strikeouts in 13 2/3 innings this season.
Schneider said right-hander Yimi García will likely be the first closing option with Romano unavailable, according to Sportsnet's Shi Davidi, adding that Chad Green will also get some looks.
Romano joins fellow Blue Jays pitchers Alek Manoah, Bowden Francis, and Yariel Rodríguez on the IL. Toronto also demoted setup man Erik Swanson to Triple-A on Tuesday after he recorded a 9.22 ERA in 17 outings.
The Blue Jays recalled left-hander Brendon Little to take Romano's spot on the active roster.
