Baltimore Orioles left-hander John Means and right-hander Tyler Wells will undergo procedures to repair UCLs, general manager Mike Elias announced Friday, according to MLB.com's Jake Rill.
Both pitchers will miss the remainder of the 2024 season.
"It's a very unfortunate situation for us, for them," Elias said. "Tough news for everybody. But we'll take great care of them and get them back to their skill levels in due time."
Means was removed from a start against the St. Louis Cardinals on May 22 with elbow discomfort and placed on the 15-day injured with a forearm strain the following day.
The injury is the latest health concern for the 31-year-old, who's made 10 starts over the past three campaigns due to arm troubles.
Means looked sharp in four starts this season, authoring a 2.61 ERA and 0.87 WHIP in 20 2/3 innings.
Wells appeared in three games this year, posting a 5.87 ERA in 15 1/3 frames. The 29-year-old tossed a career-high 118 2/3 innings across 25 outings - 20 starts - last season.
