Melvin unhappy with Giants' play: 'We're playing terribly'

San Francisco Giants manager Bob Melvin isn't happy with his team's performance following a four-game sweep at the hands of the Philadelphia Phillies.

"We've got to clean it up. We've got to play better, " Melvin said after the Giants' 6-1 loss Monday, according to SF Giants on NBCS.

"We left home one game under .500, we weren't playing very well ... now we're playing terribly."

The Giants were outscored 29-11 during the four-game set against the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. Their run differential for the season dropped to minus-41, which is the third-worst mark in the National League.

San Francisco hasn't posted a winning month after entering the campaign with high expectations following a busy offseason of spending.

The Giants dished out close to $300 million on free agents Blake Snell, Jung Hoo Lee, Matt Chapman, Jordan Hicks, and Jorge Soler to bolster their roster while tacking on additional salary in a trade involving Robbie Ray.

San Francisco is presently fourth in the NL West with a 15-21 record.
