Twins' Correa lands on IL with intercostal strain

The Minnesota Twins placed shortstop Carlos Correa on the 10-day injured list with a right intercostal strain, the club announced Saturday.

The Twins originally said Correa had an oblique injury, but changed the diagnosis later in the day.

Twins manager Rocco Baldelli said the strain is mild and the club will wait to see how symptoms play out before deciding on a timeline, according to Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

Correa left Friday's game after suffering the injury in the third inning against the Detroit Tigers.

"What sucks the most is this is the first April in my career that I've felt good," Correa said, according to Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com.

Correa is off to a strong start at the plate, slashing .306/.432/.444 with one home run, two doubles, four RBIs, and eight walks across 36 at-bats this season.

The 29-year-old is in the second campaign of a six-year contract. Correa struggled in 2023, hitting .230 with 18 home runs and a 96 wRC+ in 135 games.

The Twins recalled catcher Jair Camargo and right-handers Matt Bowman and Simeon Woods Richardson in a flurry of moves. Reliever Michael Tonkin was also designated for assignment.
