D-Backs stop E-Rod's rehab after shoulder soreness
Eduardo Rodriguez's Arizona Diamondbacks debut is delayed yet again.
Arizona halted the left-hander's rehab from a lat strain after he felt shoulder tightness during a recent bullpen session, manager Torey Lovullo said Friday.
Lovullo was unable to provide any further details about when Rodriguez might return to action.
"We decided to pull back on his progression," Lovullo told reporters, per Alex Weiner of KTAR 92.3. "So what does that mean? What is the timetable? I'm not sure. I don't know what that means right now. I just know that he spoke up, which we've asked our athletes to do, and he felt that tightness, and we're gonna continue to progress as we can."
Rodriguez, who hasn't thrown a pitch for Arizona in the regular season, signed a four-year, $80-million contract with the reigning National League champions over the winter.
He first felt the lat injury while warming up during a spring start on March 19. Rodriguez was diagnosed with a lat strain a few days later following an MRI, and he was placed on the IL to open the season.
A second MRI taken this week showed that his lat muscle has not fully healed, according to Jesse Friedman of PHNX Sports.
The 31-year-old signed with the D-Backs after putting together a career-best season with the Detroit Tigers in 2023.
