Miami Marlins right-hander Eury Pérez will undergo Tommy John surgery, president of baseball operations Peter Bendix announced Thursday, according to the Miami Herald's Jordan McPherson.
He will miss the rest of the 2024 campaign at minimum after Monday's procedure.
The 20-year-old Pérez was placed on the 15-day injured list with right elbow inflammation March 28 after initial testing didn't show structural damage.
Pérez opted for surgery after visiting Dr. Keith Meister for a second time Thursday, which followed a bullpen session this week that caused the pitcher elbow discomfort.
Pérez made 19 starts for the Marlins during his 2023 rookie campaign, authoring a 3.15 ERA and 10.6 K/9 in 91 1/3 innings.
Miami is already missing starters Sandy Alcantara, Edward Cabrera, and Braxton Garrett. Alcantara underwent Tommy John surgery last October, while Cabrera and Garrett are sidelined by shoulder impingements.
The Marlins are off to a rocky start to the season, losing their first seven games.
