The Tampa Bay Rays signed infielder Amed Rosario to a major-league contract, the team announced Tuesday.
The deal is a one-year pact worth $1.5 million with an additional $500,000 in incentives, a source told The Associated Press.
Rosario will split his time between shortstop, second base, and the corner outfield spots for the Rays.
"The shortstop, second base, outfield combination, it allows us to bring in somebody that (has) great makeup, (is a) great teammate, (a) great athlete, can handle lefties," president of baseball operations Erik Neander said, according to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times.
"We've got some competitions in camp. And depending on how those all get sorted out, the ability to help us at both positions up the middle as well as the outfield gives us a lot of different ways to put this together and come away with a better club than had he not been here."
The 28-year-old hit six homers with 58 RBIs and 15 stolen bases over a combined 142 games between the Cleveland Guardians and Los Angeles Dodgers last season.
The seven-year veteran collected an MLB-best nine triples in 2022.
Rosario owns a career .272/.308/.400 slash line with 60 round-trippers and 96 steals over 839 contests between the Guardians, Dodgers, and New York Mets.
