Marcus Stroman is fired up to join the New York Yankees.
"New York! I'm ready," Stroman wrote on his Instagram story Tuesday. "Can't wait to put on the pinstripes and feel the energy in Yankee Stadium. Honored to put on the uniform. Very very honored. Will compete to the highest degree for you all. The authentic confidence and swagger I play with is a direct result of growing up in New York culture.
"Truly can't wait to feel the buzz and vibe of the crowd on start day. That's the shit we dream about as kids. I get chills thinking of these dreams (turning) to reality!"
The Yankees added Stroman on a reported two-year, $37-million contract with a 2026 vesting option.
New York officially announced Stroman's signing on Wednesday and designated outfielder Oscar Gonzalez for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster.
The Long Island native's excitement comes despite making some negative comments on social media in the past about the club after general manager Brian Cashman questioned the right-hander's ability to be a difference-maker leading up to the 2019 trade deadline. New York ended up passing on the two-time All-Star when he was a member of the Toronto Blue Jays.
Stroman posted a 3.95 ERA with 1.26 WHIP and 119 strikeouts over 136 2/3 innings (25 starts) for the Chicago Cubs last season.
