Veteran utility man Charlie Culberson is attempting a second career as a reliever, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network.
Culberson will participate in the Atlanta Braves' minor-league camp after 11 years in the majors as a position player.
"Great guy, super athletic, throws strikes, and has arm strength. … (He) has a shot," one scout said when asked about Culberson, who's touched 94 mph with his fastball in the majors during mop-up duty.
The 34-year-old has allowed one earned run with a single strikeout and three walks over eight combined MLB appearances since 2018. However, he surrendered five runs - two earned - with two walks and five strikeouts across 3 2/3 innings in Triple-A last season.
Culberson has played for the Braves, Texas Rangers, Los Angeles Dodgers, Colorado Rockies, and San Francisco Giants.
