The Pittsburgh Pirates brought back designated hitter Andrew McCutchen on a one-year contract, the club announced Wednesday.

The pact is worth $5 million, sources told Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

McCutchen made things official himself on social media late Tuesday afternoon.

McCutchen returns to Pittsburgh for a second straight season after originally playing with the Pirates from 2009-17.

The 2013 NL MVP enters his 16th campaign with 299 homers. He recorded his 2,000th career hit in 2023.

McCutchen went deep 12 times with 43 RBIs and a .776 OPS over 112 games last season while serving as the Pirates' primary DH.

The 37-year-old was a five-time All-Star between 2011-15.
